The record season of the Golden State Warriors

22 June 2016 by No Comments

It has been an unbelievable season for the professional American basketball team, the Golden State Warriors. Based in Oakland, California, the Warriors have set an NBA record with a 73-win season, awesome!

They beat the record set by the Jordan-led 1995 to 1996 Chicago Bulls which made basketball fans around the world sit up and take notice.  For the last twenty years Michael Jordan and the 1996 Chicago Bulls set the nearly impossible standard across the NBA in the USA. This superstar team won 72 out of its 82 games that season and became known as the “Untouchables” in Gala. When this NBA season started to take shape, no-one really believed that any team could ever win more than the 1996 Chicago Bulls, how wrong they were.

The Golden State Warriors have completed the unthinkable and broken the Chicago Bulls’ 1996 basketball record. This basketball team has phenomenal talent with exciting players like Stephen Curry who was named the NBA’s most valuable player. The Warriors now hold the NBA record for the most wins of 73 and finished the season with a W-L record of 73-9 after beating the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 in the last game. The Warriors won the final game in style, the same way they have won their games for most of the season with Stephen Curry scoring 46 points. Curry has an amazing season average of 30 points a game with many of them coming from behind the 3-point line. He has helped to revolutionise the game of basketball making 10 threes to finish the year with 402.

When you consider that no-one else has 300 and Curry has broken his own record for the most 3 pointers in the season by more than 40%, what an achievement it was. Basketball fans around the world didn’t see this coming. Curry has inspired basketball lovers everywhere especially in countries like India where the game is taking off big time. There’s a lot to look forward to in Indian basketball in 2016. Professiona players like Satnan, Amjyot and Amrit Pal are ready to take big strides in their personal careers especially when the NBA is set to expand its presence in this basketball crazy country. Basketball across India is set to explode in 2016 with this year’s senior nationals, the race to be India’s best team in Mysore. This city is due to host around 50 teams in the men’s and women’s divisions from all over India to see who comes out on top. India’s first ever professional basketball league, the UBA (Universal Basketball Alliance) is also attracting many big name players. Amazingly more than one million young players from around India are going to take part in the new NBA Jam in college campuses this spring.

There is now more mainstream media attention to basketball in India than ever before. When you think that it is a country where mainstream news generally involves sporting events like cricket and Bollywood movies, there’s usually little space for coverage of alternatives such as basketball. Times are changing from Indian’s win over China at the FIBA Asia Cup in 2014 and Satnam Singh becoming the first Indian drafted into the NBA in 2015. This basketball news went viral online as did the spectacular achievements of the Golden State Warriors in the US. So many people bet on them using spectacular discounts like the Virgin games promo code. The Warriors captured the imagination of basketball enthusiasts across India and the rest of the world. They have inspired and encouraged basketball players of all ages, whether beginners, amateurs or professionals.

Many of the Golden State Warrior players grew up watching the Bulls. As their record winning NBA season began to reach its climax, the players understood the significance of history in the making. What the Warriors did this season may never be seen again.  73 wins was not thought possible by many experts in the game. As the season progressed, the attention on the Warriors began to intensify with media scrums and camera crews from across the globe. The Golden State Warriors fans had to arrive at games really early to make sure of a good seat, even just to watch the warm up. After winning the last four games of the season, the dream was a reality, the Warriors had done it. Will any other team out there beat this record NBA 73 win season?
